1214 E. 22nd St., Oakland
I moved this Victorian Cottage from 2430 13th Ave. in Oakland, to its new home, 1214 E. 22nd St., Oakland, in 1980. This boarded up classic victorian was about to be demolished, and I couldn't let this happen! I bought it for $2000, found a vacant lot a few blocks away, and convinced the owners to sell it to me, so the house could be moved there. I first talked to all the neighbors to see if they liked the idea of a house arriving on their block, and they did. I went to the City Planning Commission, made my case to save the house, and received permission to move this house to its new home and restore it. My friends and family thought I had lost my mind. It turned out to be an unforgettable project that brought a ton of joy, and provided invaluable experience. The house is currently owned by wonderful folks who love it and take great care of it.
